Short one today.
Go visit people in the nursing homes. Pick one in your area, call to make sure you can come and hand out treats, and just go, especially if you have kids. The people there adore seeing little ones. Their smiles make it worth every second of your day and every dollar you spend on the treats.
We took our little ones to hand out candy canes at the nursing home where my granny is staying for surgery recovery. Seeing the residents, they looked so glum (for lack of a better word) when we arrived. But they didn’t look glum when they were handed a candy cane and wished a Merry Christmas by one of my kids. They were so gracious and grateful and lit up at the sight of my kids. It’s hard to put into words the joy in their faces and the sound of the joy in their thank yous.
So, go visit people in the nursing homes. Take your kids. Take them treats. Wish them a Merry Christmas. You will not regret it. We left feeling like we’d received the bigger gift. I think you will, too.
