Dad’s Quick Take: Breakfast Essentials

Saturday breakfast usually means one of two things at our house: pancakes or waffles. Every dad/cook worth his weight in the kitchen needs to be able to make these breakfast staples.

These are the tools every dad needs to master these breakfast staples.

Pancakes

For pancakes, this is my go-to griddle: Lodge Cast Iron Round Griddle. Even for all 8 of us (7 who eat real, whole foods anyway), it’s more than big enough to handle three pancakes at a time. And it makes the best pancakes of any pan I’ve ever tried.

I’ve had this pan for years, and as it is with all cast iron skillets, it just keeps getting better with age. If you want the best pancakes, use the best griddle. This is it. 10 out of 10.

Waffles

For waffles, this is my go-to waffle maker: Dash Mini Waffle Maker. This waffle maker makes the perfect size waffle. The problem is, I need a lot of waffles for all of the mouths! So I have three different ones: the original (linked above), a special edition snowflake pattern one, and an Easter bunny maker.

I just added the Dash Peep Mini Waffle Maker to my rotation today because it’s on sale on Amazon for $5.44! I couldn’t pass it up for that price.

Definitely a 10 out of 10 as well.

Batter Up

Need a great box of batter on the cheap? Mrs. Butterworth’s is some of my personal favorite. It’s super easy to make (just add water) and the box will make 40 pancakes for less than $3! It’s got my stamp of approval. 10 out of 10.

I usually go for the biggest measurements for my crew (usually 3 or 4 cups of dry mix). Toss in some sprinkles or some food coloring to take your family’s breakfast to the next level!

Bonus

Ok, I sometimes make eggs or breakfast tacos, too. For those, I’ll spotlight this pan. I know I’ve written about it before here, but that just goes to show how much I think this pan is worth. As I said then, “It is my jack-of-all-trades workhorse. I can make anything and everything imaginable in it, from breakfast sausage patties and eggs to chicken Alfredo.” It really is the best pan in my kitchen. 10 out of 10. Again.

Dad Call

Alright dads, it’s time to step up your game in the kitchen! This weekend, challenge yourself to whip up a family breakfast feast starting with the classics: pancakes or waffles. Grab that griddle or waffle maker, get the kids involved in mixing the batter, and make it a tradition. No excuses because real dads fuel the family fun.
